STRENGTH TRAINING: Penn State Extension will offer virtual live group-based strength training program for adults ages 40 and above. LIFTed is aimed at improving functional fitness, or the ability to perform daily activities with ease.
There are two upcoming opportunities to take the eight-week online course, both sections of the course cover the same materials and there is a separate registration for each session.
12 (noon) to 1 p.m. every Monday and Wednesday, beginning July 22.
9 to 10 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday, beginning July 23.
Through moderated training exercises and basic nutrition information, participants will work toward achieving their personal goals in a group setting. The program is designed to improve strength, posture and flexibility, as well as emphasize the benefits of a healthy diet.
According to organizers, improved strength and bone density may reduce participants’ risk of osteoporosis and related fractures. In addition, the program may lower the risk of diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, depression and obesity.
Participants can register through July 15. A registration fee covers the cost of the full eight-week program. Registration is required to receive the link to access the webinars. Registrants will also receive access to the webinar recordings.
