Lehigh Valley Carpenter Cup team set for tourney

Lehigh Valley’s Carpenter Cup softball team competed in two, five-inning scrimmages against the Allentown Patriettes women’s team on June 12 at Patriots Park in preparation for Lehigh Valley’s run in the Philadelphia Phillies-sponsored Carpenter Cup tournament this week at FDR Park, Philadelphia.

Lehigh Valley won both scrimmages against the Patriettes, 6-3 and 9-8.

In the first scrimmage, the teams were tied, 3-3, at the end of the first inning, but Lehigh Valley plated one run in the second and two runs in the third.

Natalie Chloros (Nazareth) tripled, and Addy Smith (Liberty) doubled in the contest, and Karlye Teman (Palisades) had a stolen base.

Shauna McNamee (Nazareth) had a 2 RBI single, and Teman, Rylee McGinley (Northwestern Lehigh), and Hannah Duerr (Northampton) also had base hits.

Audrey Rinda (Easton) pitched the first three innings, and Smith pitched the last two.

In the second scrimmage, Emma Freeman (Northwestern Lehigh) pitched the first three innings, and Teman finished the game in the circle.

Addison Sabo (Liberty) had a solo home run.

Lehigh Valley tallied four triples by Lila Padden (Southern Lehigh), Freeman, Chloros, and Duerr, a double by Chloros, and two steals from McGinley.

Freeman, Duerr, Padden, McGinley, and Smith also had base hits, and Duerr knocked in two runs.

In this week’s Carpenter Cup tournament, the top two teams in each of the four brackets will move on to play single elimination for the championship on June 19.
