Summer concerts are back

Summer concerts are back. Chuck Rismiller will perform songs of Johnny Cash and friends 6:30-8:30 p.m. June 22; The Large Flowerheads will perform sounds of the 80s 6:30-8:30 p.m. June 28; The Pioneer Band will perform big band music 7-8 p.m. July 12 and Flamin’ Dick and the Hot Rods will perform 50s music 6-8:30 p.m. July 20 at the Hills at Lockridge Park Bandshell, 7125 Scenic View Drive, Macungie.

Lower Macungie Library hours are 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The library will be closed July 4 in observation of Independence Day.

Craftastic Kids will meet 6-7 p.m. June 20 to make a horse inspired craft.

A new book club – Alburtis Afternoon Book Club – will meet 1-2:30 p.m. June 20 to discuss “Firefly Lane” by Kristin Hannah. The book club will meet at the Alburtis Community Center.

Celebrate Sports Week at the library by going to see the IronPigs take on the Norfolk Tides June 23. The link to register can be accessed on the library website.

“So You Think You’re Smarter Than A Librarian?” for kindergarten through fifth grade students will be held 6 p.m. June 24.

There will be a movie matinee for adults 1-3:30 p.m. June 25 featuring the movie “Race.”

Sunny Day Storytime will be held 10-10:30 a.m. June 26 and July 10, 17, 24 and 31 for children ages 2-5 years. This story time will be held outdoors; in case of inclement weather, it will move indoors with a limited number of spaces available.

Seek & Find Library Orienteering for grades K-5 will be held 6 p.m. June 26.

“Before He Was a Catcher or a Spy: Moe Berg’s Year with the 1925 Keys” – an adult event – will be held 6:30 p.m. June 26.

Toddler sign language story time for ages 2-4 years will be held weekly 10-10:30 a.m. June 27, July 11, 18, 25 and Aug. 1. The story time will include reading fun stories and learning about American Sign Language from a deaf librarian.

“Fun, Friendship and Fiber Arts” (for adults) will meet 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 28. Bring your projects and make friends and share ideas.

There will be a video game club for grades 2-12 4-5:30 p.m. July 1.

There will be a sensory movie matinee 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 2 and July 16 for adults with developmental disabilities and their caregivers.

The Lower Macungie Library Book Club book for 10:30 a.m. to noon July 3 is “Florence Adler Swims Forever” by Rachel Beanland. The book club meets virtually.

There will be a sensory game day 11 a.m. to noon July 9 for adults with disabilities and their caregivers.

There will be two showings of “Frozen” July 9. The first showing will be 10-11:45 a.m. and the second 5-6:45 p.m. There will be popcorn and snacks.

There will be a Snack & Write: Teen Writing Workshop for grades 6-12 4 p.m. July 15.

Disney Trivia Night for Families will be held 5-6 p.m. July 16.

A Build It! Block Party for ages 2-6 years with an adult will meet 11 a.m. July 16.

The Teen Advisory Board for grades 6-12 will meet 4-5:30 p.m. July 18 to discuss books and programs. Pizza and drinks will be provided.

“Think Like a Superhero!” for grades K-5 will be offered 6 p.m. July 18.

There will be sensory coloring and crafting for Adults 11 a.m. to noon June 25 and July 23.

There are many toddler and preschool story times as well as children’s programs. Check the website for dates and times.

The Emmaus Garden Club will hold a garden tour to nine beautiful, unique and interesting gardens 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 29. Ticket price includes the garden tour, lunch and a plant sale. The event will be held rain or shine. Tickets can be purchased at Herbeins, Kospia Farms, Lehigh Valley Home and Garden Center, Tilley’s Garden Center, Edge of the Woods and Eagle Point Farm Market and Green House. The Lower Macungie Township Senior Citizens will meet noon July 2 for their picnic with entertainment by Teri Hatcher at the Lower Macungie Township Community Center. The next meetings will be Aug. 6 and Sept. 3.

Lower Macungie pool hours are noon to 8 p.m. through July 31. Adult lap swim will be available 9-10 a.m. and 10-11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday mornings. Preregistration is required. The pool will close 4:45 p.m. for swim meets June 27, July 1 and 11. The pool will close 3 p.m. July 17 for Silver Champs. July 17 is pool member appreciation day. Swim lessons are also available.

Lower Macungie Township has partnered with Upper Macungie Township to offer memberships to the Splash Park, 6930 Ruppsville Road, Upper Macungie Township.

Open gym is available at the Lower Macungie Township Community Center. Residents must purchase an annual membership to use the gym. Lower Macungie Township now offers indoor pickleball at the community center gymnasium. Advance registration is required.

Lower Macungie Township offers many programs for adults and children. For more information, go to http://www.lowermac.com/recreation/activities-programs/. Adult classes include baking, belly dance, yoga, karate, ballroom dance, and tai chi. Youth classes include cooking, Kindermusik, Safe Sitter, tennis, pre-ballet and tot sports.

The community center is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Staff will be available during that time at 610-966-6924. Updates will also be posted on Facebook and www.lowermac.com.

Yard waste center hours through Oct. 31 are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. Yard waste permits are required for drop-off. The center is located at 5536 Indian Creek Road, Macungie.

Weekly curbside collection of grass clippings has begun. Collection will take place the day after your regular trash day on the weeks of June 24, July 8 and 22.
