Richard Vincent Sweeney, 82, of Whitehall, died June 2, 2024, at Lehigh Valley Hospital. He was the husband of Diana A. (Vollman) for 57 years.

Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Vincent R. and Roma (Beil) Sweeney.

He was a 1959 graduate of Allentown Central Catholic High School.

He served in the U.S. Army.

He worked at Western Electric, AT&T, Bell Labs and Lucent Technologies. He retired as a supervisor at Agere Systems after 45 years.

He was a member of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Roman Catholic Church where he served as an Eucharistic minister and volunteered at many parish functions.

He was an active member of St. Elizabeth Athletic Association and assisted a few seasons with the Fullerton American Legion baseball team. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 528 and was a lifelong member of Fullerton Fire Company.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Colleen Dorsey and husband Daniel; a son, Richard J. and wife Jamie; five grandchildren, Jonathan and Caitlin Polek and Taylor, Kelly and Logan; two sisters, Judith Dreisbach and husband Gerald and Maryann Valent and husband Steven; a sister, Theresa Geiger and husband John; nephews; nieces; godchildren; and cousins.

He was predeceased by in-laws, Joseph and Theresa (Haftl) Vollman; a son-in-law, James Polek; a nephew, John Joseph Geiger; a godson, Michael Kahr; and aunts and uncles.
