LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Paw Prints on the Canal

The 15th annual Paw Prints on the Canal was held June 9 at Canal Street Park in Northampton. The weather was nearly perfect, with fluffy white clouds dotting the sunlit sky. There was a large turnout from humans and canines alike.

Music and entertainment was provided by DJ P.K.

There were demonstrations on the baseball field by Northampton Borough K-9 Police Officer Geoff Perry and his service mate Chico.

The band shell served as the stage for the sharp-dressed pet contest.

There were also dog training sessions at the portable band shelter. The training schedule included Passion 4 Paws Dog Training and the Lehigh Valley service dogs by Caitlin’s Animals.

There were numerous pet rescues in attendance. Other highlights included a microchipping clinic, various food vendors, crafts, clothing merchandise and more for sale.

The event also featured 50/50 and other raffles and an ice cream and bake sale. Northampton Borough Police Chief Bryan Kadingo demonstrated his commitment to the cause by helping run the bake sale stand.

Ashley Marsh, of Nazareth, was at the event with her longhair dachshund named Parker. Marsh said she was impressed with the number of vendors, totaling around 200, and the attendance at the gathering.

The goal of the Paw Prints event is to raise money for the Northampton Police Department K-9 unit. Over the years, the volunteer Paw Prints team has raised tens of thousands of dollars for the unit.
