Lehigh Valley Town Center road and basin discussed

The June 11 meeting of the Lower Macungie Township Planning Commission involved discussing the road and stormwater basin for the Lehigh Valley Town Center Project.

The Lehigh Valley Town Center project was represented by John McRoberts of the Pidcock Company. The Top Golf plan was previously approved. McRoberts said he is full speed ahead with the current storm basin and driveway configuration. In addition, McRoberts said he hopes to begin construction in the fall.

Planning Director Nathan Jones spoke about traffic and stormwater on the property. Jones said waivers regarding the road on the property were necessary due to a historic cemetery on the neighboring property.

The stormwater basin will service Top Golf, the roadway and a portion of the future development on the property. An agreement with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is still a work in progress. A motion to recommend approval of the basin and roadway passed.

Jones spoke about the progress of some of the previous projects. He explained the construction at Church Lane and Lower Macungie Road was part of the Spring Creek 2022 project and would become townhomes.

Jones also spoke about the Woodmont Phase II project in Macungie. He said the old Allen Organ building would be demolished soon and two larger trees on the property would also be felled. He added the first phase of construction would be the mixed use buildings.

There was a discussion about the progress of the strip mall on the Home Depot property. The entrances of the buildings will be internal facing. The uses will include service and dining and there will be an outdoor dining area on the property.

Another property expected to begin infrastructure work this summer is a portion of the Spring Creek Subdivision off Mertztown Road. The project includes 400 housing units.

There is an application for next month’s meeting from Hamilton Square. The property is across the street from the Taco Bell and office building on Hamilton Boulevard and is bookended by an entrance and access point to Hamilton Crossings.

The next Lower Macungie Township Planning Commission meeting will be July 16. Usually the planning commission meets the second Tuesday of every month and occasionally there is a workshop meeting on the third Tuesday of the month. There will be no workshop in June.

Meetings begin 6 p.m. and currently all planning commission meetings will be held both in person and over Zoom with a video recording uploaded to the township’s YouTube channel after the fact.
