E. Allen board approves resignation of supervisor
At the May 23 East Allen Township Board of Supervisors meeting, the board voted to accept the resignation of East Allen Township Supervisor Donald Heiney. No reason was given publicly for the resignation, and no letter of resignation was read at the meeting.
There was no discussion about filling the vacancy made by Heiney’s resignation, which was effective at the end of the supervisors meeting held May 9.
Board Chairman Roger Unangst was appointed as the primary East Allen representative to First Regional Compost Authority. Supervisor Georgiann Hunsicker was named secondary representative. Heiney represented the township in FRCA meetings before his resignation.
In other business, supervisors approved awarding 2024 road program bids to Bracalante Construction of Northampton in the amount of $656,766.30.
The removal of the warning signal at the former East Allen Ambulance Corps building on Nor-Bath Boulevard was also approved by the board.
After a robust debate, a recommendation to execute a lease for line painting equipment for the athletic fields, not to exceed $17,700, was tabled pending more information.
Supervisors approved the expenditure of $7,500 for software and other computer items to improve the efficiency of the township office operation.
A resolution was approved by the board to authorize a grant application for the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development’s Greenways, Trails and Recreation Grant Program for $250,000 for an inclusive playground. There is a 15% match required from the township.
The board approved resolutions accepting the dedication of a right of way for Hanover Street and Dogwood Drive.
There was a suggestion from township Manager Brent Green that the board review the possible replacement of various township vehicles. The board denied the suggestion.
The next East Allen Township Board of Supervisors meeting was expected to be held June 13 in the township municipal building, 5344 Nor-Bath Blvd., Northampton. It is a hybrid meeting, with both in-person and virtual options. Visit eatwp.org to access the meeting virtually.
