The Rev. Peter P. Grimes, 91, died May 22, 2024. He was a son of the late Esther (Wartluft) and Joseph P. Grimes Sr. He was the husband of the late Ruth (Kratzer) Grimes for 63 years.

He grew up in Womelsdorf, where he graduated from high school in 1950. He was a cum laude 1954 graduate of Muhlenberg College. He attended the Lutheran Theological Seminary, Philadelphia.

He was ordained into the Lutheran ministry in 1957. He was the pastor of the former Grace Lutheran Church, Bethlehem, for 22 years until he retired in 1995. He served the Centerport Lutheran parish of Bellemans and St. Timothy, Berks County, and St. John’s Farmersville, Bethlehem Township. He assisted the pastor of Messiah Lutheran Church, Bethlehem, for two years. He was vice-pastor at New Jerusalem Church, Hellertown.

He was the first Director of Development at The Good Shepherd Home and Rehabilitation Hospital, Allentown. He served on numerous committees for the Bethlehem-Easton District, Pastoral Associations, the Council of Churches and the Northeastern PA Synod of the ELCA.

He was a school board director of the Schuylkill Valley Joint School System and a director of Meals on Wheels. He was a member of various community organizations.

He is survived by a one daughter, Beth Grimes Conover and her husband John; and four grandchildren, Jake, Marissa, Kate and Ethan.

He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Jr.
