Silberman named All-American

Moravian University catcher and Salisbury High School graduate Marcie Silberman recently completed a successful sophomore season with the Greyhounds.

Moravian went 31-10 overall and earned the top seed in the Landmark Conference playoffs before earning the league title by winning the tournament. The Hounds advanced to the NCAA Division III tournament and hosted an NCAA Regional for the first time in program history.

“Overall, we had a good season,” said Silberman. “It was disappointing how it ended, but we had some great games up to that point. It can be tough at times to avoid feeling pressure from how we performed last year, but we had a pretty successful season.

“The success of the Moravian softball program does not go unnoticed. We put in so much time and hard work and it shows when we play. Last year was a complete fever dream. We made an incredible run and came every day and competed hard. This year our bats just went cold at the wrong time, and we came up short in the NCAA regional tournament. Hopefully we learn from this year and make another as appearance in the world series next year.”

Following the season, Silberman was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Second Team, a first time All-American.

She was also tabbed to the Landmark First Team after ending the year with a .348 batting average to go with a team-high 48 hits, 31 runs, 15 doubles (team and league-high), a school and Landmark Conference record 16 home runs, 52 RBIs and a school record 111 total bases.

She was also second in the conference in slugging percentage (.880) and OPS (1.209).

“Being named an All-American is such a huge accomplishment,” said Silberman. “Every season before we go on our spring break trip, we make team and personal goals for ourselves. My personal goals were to have double-digit home runs and to be an All-American this year.

“It was unbelievable to think I could accomplish both of those goals this year. My coaches always push me to be able to perform at my full potential and my teammates help me to stay focused and work hard each and every day.”

Silberman has enjoyed being at Moravian the last two years, a decision she is happy she made following her 2022 graduation from Salisbury.

“I really enjoy being at Moravian,” Silberman said. “I love being close to home and all of my family. Everything is very accessible on campus and there are many activities and events to attend. Coming from a small high school can be hard, but Moravian makes it seem not so bad because it isn’t a very large school and I like that I am a name and not a number. We also have a great softball program, so it makes the experience here much more enjoyable.”

When asked what Salisbury meant to her as a student-athlete and how it prepared her for college, she had many good things to say about her time as a Falcon.

“At Salisbury I was able to play a different sport each season to keep myself active, which has helped me prepare as a collegiate student-athlete because we practice and play for most of the school year,” said Silberman. “It helps to learn time management and organization early because college can get a little crazy at times so being prepared for balancing out a schedule makes it an easier experience.

“I also had amazing teachers and coaches who were supportive, encouraging, and pushed me to think and work hard all the time.”

For the second straight season, Silberman enjoyed being teammates with her older sister Emily, a senior in her fourth season with the Greyhounds.

Emily Silberman played in all 41 games this season and batted .349 with a .391 on base percentage and .472 slugging percentage.

Over four season at Moravian, she played in 150 games and batted .370 with a .423 OBP while slugging .539 in 397 career at bats. Emily Silberman hit 20 home runs and drove in 123 over her Moravian career.
