Parkland boys lacrosse team reached state playoffs in 2024

The Parkland High School boys lacrosse team had another successful season, qualifying for all three postseason tournaments, the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference, District 11 and PIAA state playoffs. The Trojans finished the year with a 15-8 overall record and an 8-1 mark in the conference. They fell to eventual champion Easton in the semifinal round of the EPC tournament as the two seed, defeated Freedom and Emmaus in districts before falling to the Red Rovers once again in the final, and then lost in the state opening round game to District 3’s second-place team Manheim Township back on June 4. “I am thrilled that we were able to make a run at districts by earning our way into the final game,” said Parkland head coach Vince Arezzi. “Though it was disappointing to come away with a silver, yet again. The opportunity to play in the final game alone is something we can be proud of. I am also excited that we went to state playoffs two years in a row.” When asked about any highlights from the year, Arezzi had two games that came to mind right away. “I have two favorite games/memories from the season,” Arezzi said. “Our overtime win against Allentown Central Catholic was inspiring and took amazing resiliency. The other favorite moment was our district semifinal game against Emmaus. We were coming in as the fourth seed to their top seed. They had an amazing team, and it took everything we had to squeak away with an overtime win.” There were a number of standouts that Arezzi mentioned, including James Scott, Parker Kusko, Johnny Gerancher, Jake Parker, Blake Finnegan, Drew Shaffer, Erik Matulevicius and Andrew Matulevicius. There will be some talented underclassmen returning for the 2025 season and Arezzi is excited for the group to be back. “They are fierce competitors and hungry to win,” Arezzi said. “They will turn practices into game-like competitions. Most importantly, next year’s players are a selfless group that will play for each other and their school. This group has a chip on its shoulder and something to prove after getting two district silver medals in the past two seasons. They feel they are better than “second best” and want to show everyone.”
