LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Four PHS wins feature four different leading scorers

The Parkland High School boys basketball team, which had one of the best seasons in program history last winter, continued its strong play into the summer offseason as the Trojans have won all four of their games in the Lehigh Valley Summer League. “The summer has been going pretty well so far,” said second-year head coach Eddie Ohlson. “We lost a good number of senior leaders off of last year’s team so we are young and inexperienced this year. Each game this offseason has been a good learning experience for us. Even still, we’ve been winning our games and learning each game, so that is great.” The first week of summer ball featured a bye and some bad weather so Parkland’s first game and opening night came on Tuesday, May 28, as it got the better of Central Catholic 54-39 behind a game-high 13 points from Blake Nassry. The Trojans then defeated rival Emmaus 59-33 on Thursday, May 30. Scott Bauer led the way with a game-high 15 points. Last week the Trojans downed Saucon Valley 57-34 Tuesday with Alex Herrera dropping 11 points. Two nights later they beat Nazareth 59-33 behind 18 points by Tyler Beck. That’s four straight wins all by double figures for Parkland to open the summer. This year’s group seems just as hungry and wanting to keep the program at the top of the state. “They really do want to keep the winning going and the momentum rolling from last season,” Ohlson said. “They are hungry and hard working and really wanting to learn the game more.” Parkland is currently 4-0 overall and is a half a game behind Wilson West Lawn (5-0) in the league standings.
