Unsung Heroes

The Lehigh County Office of Aging and Adult Services held a program May 15 recognizing senior citizens in Lehigh County for their contributions to the quality of life in the county. This year, 19 older adults were awarded the title of Unsung Heroes of the Lehigh Valley.

Whitehall residents Lana Snyder and Carole O’Connell were honored for their efforts in the community.

Snyder volunteers for multiple organizations, using her skills learned as a licensed practical nurse at Sacred Heart Hospital to better the lives of other senior citizens.

O’Connell has spent her spare time involved in community activities and volunteerism.

These awardees are chosen by friends, families and recipients of their talents during the past year. The program was held at the Zentz Center at Fellowship Community, 3000 Fellowship Drive, Whitehall.

The program was coordinated by Jessica Yaich, Aging and Adult Services for Lehigh County program analyst. Award presenters included Lehigh County Executive Phillips Armstrong; JR Reed, of the Office of Aging and Adult Services; and Arthur DiLoreto, Pennsylvania Association of Area Agencies on Aging former deputy director.
