Township commissioners approve new Wawa

At the June 10 meeting, the Whitehall Township Board of Commissioners approved a new Wawa in the township.

It will be located at the corner of Mickley and MacArthur roads, near the site of the former Sears Auto Center, according to resolution 3325. Project representatives said the site will house a 6,000-square-foot convenience store and include 16 fuel pumps under a canopy.

In other business, Hometown Auto Spa, 3318 Seventh St., plans to add two automatic car wash bays along with a mechanical room and driveway loop. The commissioners approved the addition. Currently, the property has one automatic car wash bay and six self-service bays.

The board also approved a major subdivision plan for Fullerton Terminals LLC, at 2451 Main St. A new 13.95-acre lot will be created from an existing 37.19-acre parcel.

An ordinance deferring the required installation of curbing and sidewalk for 840 feet along Range Road was approved for the Main Street project. Engineer Frank Clark said it will be deferred until the second lot is purchased and development begins.

Lehigh County Coroner Daniel Buglio attended the meeting to recognize five members of the fire department dive team for their assistance in a multiagency investigation in mid-May.

Commissioners also discussed an ordinance to accept a proposal for the second phase of the Coplay Creek stream bank restoration project and another ordinance to authorize the acceptance of a tree trimming, stump removal and tree removal services proposal for township parks.

Resolutions 3326 and 3327 were administrative and involved approving the refund of pension contributions and accumulated interest from the Police Pension Fund to two former police officers.

The agenda also included motions to reappoint Michael Long to the township plumbers examining board, with a term scheduled to expire April 30, 2027, and to appoint Ray Bieak as the IRT liaison on the township’s recreation commission, with a term expiring Sept. 30, 2027.

The commissioners next meet 7 p.m. July 1 in the municipal building, 3219 MacArthur Road.
