On May 15, the Lehigh County Office and Aging and Adult Services held a program recognizing older adults in Lehigh County for their contributions to the quality of life in the county. These recipients are chosen by friends, families and recipients of their talents.
This year 19 older adults were recognized with the title of Unsung Hero of the Lehigh Valley.
The program was held at the Zentz Center at Fellowship Community, 3000 Fellowship Drive, Whitehall.
The event was coordinated by Jessica Yaich, program analyst, Aging and Adult Services for Lehigh County. Lehigh County Executive Phillips Armstrong, JR Reed, executive of the Lehigh County Office of Aging and Adult Services and Arthur DiLoreto, former deputy director, Pennsylvania Association of Area Agencies on Aging served as presenters at the Unsung Heroes Awards 2024 ceremony.

Mary Schaeffer, of Lower Macungie Township, is described as a force of good at Grace Lutheran Church, Macungie, where she initiated free community meals that evolved into a weekly food distribution service earning her the title of Unsung Hero.
