Hanover awards sewer system maintenance project

At the June 5 Hanover Township, Lehigh County, Council meeting, council awarded bid 2024-04 to Precision Industrial Maintenance Inc. for the planned sanitary sewer system manhole maintenance and rehabilitation program. The successful bid was $105,550.

Township Manager Melissa Wehr reported she met with Pennsylvania Department of Transportation about the upcoming milling and asphalt project in the township.

The project is expected to begin this summer.

Wehr also noted the recent showing of the movie “Migration” in the park was a success. The next movie in the park will be June 28. The featured film, “The War With Grandpa,” will be shown at Canal Park, 1960 Dauphin St., Allentown.

Engineer Al Kortze said the Marcon sanitary sewer project is expected to begin in early July and is planned for completion in about two months.

He also noted the Sherwood Park micro-surface project was completed. There was some council comment about the finished surface having a rough quality. Kortze explained the overlay will bond and become smoother as the street is driven on.

Council approved bill 2024-04, which amends ordinance 656 of the statuary code to allow joint municipal electronic bids to be opened before a public meeting of or by a municipal engineer of a participating municipality.

Council also approved the execution of the River Central Multi-Municipal Comprehensive Plan intergovernmental cooperative implementation agreement.

Council authorized the release of the first of three payments to Stonewood Landshaping Inc. for stormwater rehabilitation and enhancement projects, including the Allendale swale repair, Canal Park bioretention and the public works swale rehabilitation, in the amount of $79,551.

Bills, as of June 5, were approved in the amount of $1,047,328.47. Council asked why the amount exceeded $1 million. Wehr noted the bills were high because of the payment for capital projects.

The next Hanover Township, Lehigh County, Council meeting is set for 7 p.m. June 19 at the township municipal building, 2202 Grove Road, Allentown.
