EHS names student of the week

Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?

A. I am a 2024 graduate of Emmaus High School.

Q. Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets?

A. My parents are Ryan and Deb Hogan.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. This year I really have found a liking for psychology. I think the human mind is such a fascinating topic and learning about how it reacts to life events and can change over time is really interesting to me.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. I’m a two-time Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Champion and a one-time District Champion, 2023 Second Team All-EPC West Division, Third Team All-Area, Emmaus Most Valuable Offensive Player and 2024 Second Team All-EPC.

Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities? How has being involved in this organization impacted your high school experience?

A. Varsity baseball, 4-year varsity starter. I couldn’t imagine going through high school without playing baseball; the memories and friends I’ve made will forever leave a lasting impact on me and helped me grow as a person and someone who I am proud of.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. I would say my biggest challenge was fighting back from a broken back my sophomore year. Before my sophomore year began I had a fracture in two of my vertebrae in my lumbar spine, causing me to be in a thick plastic brace for four months straight. Seeing all my teammates and friends enjoy the game I love when I was registered useless in my brace was a challenging experience and made me find a love for the game that I didn’t know I had.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. To go and excel at Coppin State University, both on the baseball field and in my classes.

Q. Whom do you hope to emulate? Why?

A. David Goggins, he is the most hardworking and determined person I’ve ever seen and I hope to achieve his drive, tenacity and success one day in my life.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. I want to be remembered as someone who made an impact, small or large. If I made one person’s life even just a little bit better, then that is all I could ask for.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. Find the good in everything, no matter how hard you think you have it, someone always has it worse. Just relax, find the good, you have a path ... so follow it.
