SENIOR NUTRITION PROGRAM: County Executive Lamont G. McClure and Area Agency on Aging announced the start of the 2024 Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. From June 1 until Sep. 13, vouchers worth $50 will be available to Northampton County residents who meet the eligibility criteria. The vouchers are distributed by the Northampton County Area Agency on Aging. They are valid from June 1 through Nov. 30, 2024.

Northampton County residents age 60 or over who meet the 2024 income eligibility of $27,861/year for a single person and $37,814 for a couple and who present proof of age and residence may qualify. Persons may only receive coupons once. Seniors who live in nursing homes, convents, or residential facilities where meals are provided are not eligible.

For married couples, both spouses may obtain coupons. Program policies allow one to obtain coupons for another person only if they have a completed and signed proxy form. A person may only serve as a proxy for up to four other participants, and identification with date of birth and address of the older adult must be shown when presenting a proxy. The form is available for pickup at the AAA office, 2801 Emrick Blvd., at all County Senior Centers and on the AAA’s website, norcopa.gov/area-agency-on-aging.

COVID CENTERS CLOSING: The Northampton County Department of Community and Economic Development, Emergency Management Services and Lehigh Valley Hospital-Coordinated Health Allentown Hospital, announce the closure of the COVID-19 vaccinations and testing sites in Northampton County.

The vaccination site, LVPG Internal Medicine – Pine Street (325 Pine Street, Easton), and associated walk-in testing centers located at Bangor ExpressCARE, Bethlehem Township ExpressCARE, and Palmer Township ExpressCARE played a pivotal role in the region’s response to the pandemic which closed June 1.

LETI LAUNCHED: Attorney General Michelle Henry announced today that Northampton County has joined the Law Enforcement Treatment Initiative (LETI), a collaborative program launched by the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General and law enforcement to divert individuals in need to treatment services.

Northampton County becomes the 30th county to join LETI as Attorney General Henry continues efforts to expand the program.

PA LETI is a law enforcement-led treatment initiative that enables Pennsylvanians in Northampton County seeking treatment for substance use disorder to contact probation and parole services, the sheriff’s department, other county officials, and community stakeholders, who will then contact the Northampton County Drug and Alcohol Program, Single County Authority (SCA).
