BETHLEHEM social calendar June 12 2024

PIZZAFEST: It’s a celebration of all things pizza at ArtsQuest at the SteelStacks campus on Sunday, Sept. 29, Come out for the Greater Lehigh Valley’s best pizza vendors, along with pizza-themed entertainment and games for Pizzafest presented by Surfside Vodka.

The festival starts at 1 p.m. for general admission. General admission tickets give attendees access to entertainment throughout Pizzafest, including music, game shows and more. And of course, attendees will get to enjoy delicious pizza from all vendors and drinks from the Mack Truck Stop, Central Tap and the Pour Bar. For a special pizza-themed gift and an extra hour at Pizzafest (noon – 1 p.m.), early access tickets are available.

ROCKETRY CAMP: Youth between the ages of 8-18 (age as of Jan. 1, 2024) are invited to join a rocketry camp. This summer we will host a camp for those with an interest in STEM and traveling out of this world. Campers will learn about teamwork, engineering and problem-solving. In the three-evening camp, the youth will take on engineering challenges and even create their own rocket. The camp will be held at the Lehigh County 4-H Extension Center at 4184 Dorney Park Road, Allentown. The camp dates are July 29, 30 and 31, from 6-8 p.m.

Registration is limited to 20 for the camp and there is a fee for those not currently 4-H members.

CAMEL’S HUMP FARM CAMP: Five days a week (except for Fourth of July week) for children age 3 through 14. Options: full day: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; ages three to five (potty trained only): 9 a.m. to noon; Special needs: 8:30 a.m. to noon, have a quiet meeting place and earlier arrival time to help them acclimate to camp. They will be integrated with groups based on needs, ability and staffing. Extended care available. Experience farm life, study the nine different ecosystems of the preserve, learn practical life skills, games, track, hunt, fish, farm, forage, cook, build, create stories, art and music.

Guest instructors including a Lenape educator, art teacher, veterinary intern, professional farmer, herpetologist, environmental scientist, wildlife specialist and more.

LENAPE SEMINAR: Registration is now open for “Homecoming: The Lenape Speak,” a daylong conference scheduled for Saturday, July 27, from 7:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. It is hosted by the Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania, and will be held at Northampton Community College in Bethlehem.

This event will feature Lenape speakers from across the United States and Canada, who will sit together to discuss topics such as Lenape history, language, craft, horticulture, food sovereignty and justice, medicine and storytelling. COASTER’S 100th ANNIVERSARY: Dorney Park’s Thunderhawk roller coaster’s 100th Anniversary Celebration is scheduled for Saturday, June 29. The all-day event included with admission will feature a special ceremony, music, food, a pop-up history museum, special guests, photo ops and more. HOMETOWN HEROES, untill July 14. The SteelStacks campus will be draped with images of local military heroes as a display of the appreciation and gratitude for their sacrifices and contributions. Welcome to the Black Literacy Cops and Kids Reading Room, a dynamic initiative aimed at fostering a love for reading and strengthening bonds between law enforcement officers and children within the Black community. Master storyteller, Baba Wague Diakite retells an authentic African tale the way he learned it as a child in The Hat Seller and the Monkeys. The vibrant, ceramic-tile paintings and creative volunteer, Diane Karp bring the hat seller, mischievous monkeys and plants of the African countryside to life.
