Lower Milford Company to host plant bingo June 23

Volunteers in Lower and Upper Milford townships racked up impressive numbers at township events in April.
According to the Lower Milford Township website, 47 volunteers helped collect 55 bags of trash and five tires in the township cleanup day held April 20.
Volunteers celebrated their efforts with a thank-you lunch later that day.
In Upper Milford Township, volunteers worked together to collect 89 30-gallon bags of trash, 13 30-gallon bags of recyclables, 9,777 pounds of electronic waste, 50 pounds of household batteries and 3,982 pounds of paper in the annual Earth Day Cleanup, also April 20, hosted by the Borough of Emmaus Upper Milford Township Joint Environmental Advisory Council, according to a memo from organizers.
At The Seed Farm’s annual spring plant sale, volunteers turned out to tackle tasks such as potting starter plants in preparation for the sale to helping park cars on sale days.
The farm, located in Upper Milford Township, donated unsold plants to area groups helping to address food insecurity and improve access to fresh produce.

Lower Milford Fire Company No. 1, 1601 Limeport Pike, will host a plant bingo June 23. Doors open noon and games start 1 p.m. There is a cost for tickets. Visit the fire company’s Facebook page for details.
While the topic of fire companies is fresh, consider an upcoming program hosted by the Friends of the Southern Lehigh Library, the home library for Lower Milford Township residents. Tim Betz, curator of exhibitions for the Northampton County Historical and Genealogical Society, will present a program on the story behind the exhibit “Forged by Fire: the Heroism, Honor and History of Firefighting” 7 p.m. June 12 at the library, 3200 Preston Lane, Center Valley. Register for the talk at the library front desk.
The exhibit is displayed at the Sigal Museum in Easton.
Also, consider helping support volunteer firefighters in Upper Milford Township by eating barbecue.
Upper Milford Western Fire Company will host its popular chicken barbecue fundraiser 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 22. There is a cost for tickets. The menu includes a half chicken, baked potato and applesauce. Visit the website uppermilfordfire.org for details.
On June 30, The Heidelberg Brass Band will present a polka service 10:30 a.m. as part of the 78th annual pilgrimage to Dillingersville School House, 7226 School House Lane, in a location that has been in both Lower and Upper Milford townships dependent on the time period of the map used. All are welcome to the service.
The one-room school house, listed on the National Register of Historical Places, was created as a meeting house, church and school for three church congregations.
The pilgrimage celebration also often includes a picnic.
The Lower Milford Township board of supervisors will next meet 6:30 p.m. June 20 at the township building, 7607 Chestnut Hill Church Road.
