EHS names student of the week

Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?

A. I am currently a senior at Emmaus High School.

Q. Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.

A. My parents names are Derek and Melissa Huffer, I have one older sister named Madeline, one younger sister named Gracie and a sweet dog named Mabel.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. My favorite subject is anatomy and physiology because there is so much to learn about the human body and figuring out how everything works together is really interesting.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. Academically, I have received Principal’s Honor Roll, honor roll and Principal’s Academic Awards throughout all four years at EHS. Athletically, I have received the Coaches Award (soccer) and the Lady Hornets Soccer Association Booster Club Scholarship.

Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities? How has being involved in these organizations impacted your high school experience?

A. I am involved in National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, Hornet Ambassadors, new student mentors, St. Luke’s Hospital volunteering, Healthy Kids Running Series volunteering, the EHS girls soccer team and the unified track and field team as secretary. Through these activities I have learned many valuable skills such as leadership, time management and the importance of inclusion. They have provided me with lifelong friendships and mentors to look up to for a lifetime.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. My biggest challenge to date is probably my sister moving away to college. We were so close growing up and a distance of five and a half hours can be very difficult at times. It’s hard to see her miss out on some of my “little sister and I’s” milestones we want her there for.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. My next goal after high school is to complete the accelerated physician assistant program at Kings College and become a certified physician assistant, while playing on the women’s soccer team.

Q. Whom do you hope to emulate? Why?

A. I hope to emulate the characteristics of my parents because they both have taught me so much and if I can be just a little piece of what they are, I consider that a win.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. I would like to be remembered for my involvement both inside the school community and outside in public. I also want to be remembered for the positive way I treat people and my determination at all tasks I’m given.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. My biggest piece of advice is to go out of your comfort zone and try new things. Even if you fail, get up and try again. I learned so much about myself by going out of my comfort zone and it introduced me to and assured me of the career path I am choosing.
