ACCHS middle school soccer camp July 22-25

The Allentown Central Catholic High School 2024 Rockne Hall Wall of Fame Ceremony took place May 17. This year, Class of 1988 graduate Matthew F. Kalady, Charlie Post, Dennis J. Ramella and Class of 2012 grad David Rosenberger were inducted.

As the end of the school year and spring sports season approaches, many Vikings recently received recognition for their accomplishments.

Two Vikettes earned the Tri Clover Award this year. This award honors student athletes who received 12 varsity letters during their tenure at Central. Only a small number of students ever qualify for this award and only three have qualified in the past 11 years. This year’s recipients are Sammy Roth and Izzy-Kehoe Huck.

Sammy earned four letters in girls soccer, four letters in girls basketball and four letters in track and field. Sammy will play soccer this fall at University of Scranton.

Izzy earned four letters in cross country, four in track and field, three in girls soccer and one in swimming. Izzy will further her education at University of Delaware in the Honors College. Izzy also recently received the girls track and field Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Scholar Athlete Award.

Shoutout to District XI 2A track and field champions Clark Gulycz and Duke Ebert. Clark won first place with a 57-foot, 6-inch shot put throw. Duke earned first place in the 1600 meter race with a 4:23.24 time.

Will Haring also placed fourth in the 3200 meter, securing another personal record by 14 seconds after already shaving 15 seconds off his time at the Zephyr Invitational. His time of 9:56.71 surpassed the previous ACCHS record of 9:57.0 from 2014.

Clark also became the state’s 2A boys track shot put champion May 25 with a throw of 58 feet and 3.75 inches. He earned the first boys state title in ACCHS history and will continue his academic and athletic career at St. Francis University.

The girls lacrosse team won their District XI semifinal game versus Northwestern Lehigh 18-7 May 20. Katie Seiler propelled the Vikettes to victory by scoring six goals, including her 100th career goal during the game. Seiler also had 10 draw controls for the Vikettes. She has 54 goals so far this season and was named Lehigh Valley Live Girls Lacrosse Player of the Week. Unfortunately the Vikettes fell to Southern Lehigh in the championship game May 22.

The boys lacrosse team won their District XI semifinal game against Moravian Academy and advanced to the finals where they defeated Northwestern 17-6. The Vikings outscored second-seeded Northwestern 10-1 in the second half, fueling their seventh overall district championship and the third in the last four seasons.

Huge congratulations to Anna Edwards and Kaysiana Yeager for their Freddy Award for Outstanding Small Ensemble Performance. The girls performed “Stepsisters’ Lament” in this year’s production of “Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella (Enchanted Edition).”

Mark your calendars for the ACCHS music department’s 2025 spring performance, “Shrek The Musical” April 3, 4 and 5, 2025.

The baseball team defeated third seed Bristol in the District XI quarterfinal May 21, advancing to the semifinal game against Salisbury High School. Sadly, Salisbury’s offense prevailed in the final inning for the Falcons to win the game.

The Vikette volleyball team will hold an elementary volleyball clinic for girls entering first through fourth grades 8-10:30 a.m. June 15. There is a cost and parents should email lauriejcorcoran@gmail.com to register or ask questions. Participants should bring sneakers, knee pads and water and should enter via the back alley entrance of Rockne Hall.

The ACCHS middle school soccer camp will run 9 a.m. to noon July 22-25 at St. Joseph the Worker soccer field. Any rising sixth through eighth grade boy or girl may participate in this camp for a cost. Team rates are also available. Campers will strengthen their soccer skills while receiving personal guidance and engaging with current ACCHS team leaders. The camp also includes a free T-shirt and pizza for lunch July 25. Visit the ACCHS social media pages to scan the QR code to register your child. Please direct any questions to Coach Taylor Holko at tholko@acchs.info.

A high school girls CYO basketball league may begin this 2024-2025 winter season. However, it must be confirmed enough teams will participate to form a league. If any girls would like to play in the league, or if any parents would like to volunteer to coach, email girls.hs.cyo.basketball@gmail.com with your name, parish and grade (if applicable).

Edu-iCare needs more international student host families for the 2024-2025 school year. Families can positively impact an international student’s life and support their education by hosting them. If interested, email anna@edu-icare.org.

Parents and students can find the 2024 summer reading list at acchs.info/summer-reading. Assignments depend on a student’s grade and the level of English class. All students must complete the required readings prior to the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year.

The school office summer hours will begin June 17 and end Aug. 9. During this time, the office will operate 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday and will close Fridays.

Unfortunately this is my final column as the Viking Voices writer as I graduated May 31. I loved sharing all the news and excitement with the Viking Nation these last two years. I have also appreciated the support from all my dedicated readers. I will attend West Virginia University’s Honors College next year and major in human nutrition and foods. Rising ACCHS senior Rachel Fleck will resume the column this fall! I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable summer.

Editor’s Note: We thank Catherine for her thorough coverage of Allentown Central Catholic High School happenings. We will truly miss her reporting but wish her the best of luck at West Virginia University’s Honors College and in her future endeavors.
