The baseball season came to an end for Liberty and Bethlehem Catholic Monday during the opening round of the PIAA tournament.
Bethlehem Catholic’s journey ended in the afternoon following a 10-5 loss to Conwell-Egan in the first round of the PIAA 4A baseball tournament.
The Hawks fell behind 6-0 after two innings and could never recover fully, despite cutting the lead in half through four innings. That’s when Egan turned it up more, scoring a run in the fifth and three in the sixth to deflate Becahi’s hopes.
Brayden Rader led the Hawks with two RBI on the day, while four Egan batters had two hits apiece in a 10-hit display.
Joe Casciano struggled for Becahi on the mound out of the gate, giving up five hits and two earned runs in just over an inning of work.
The loss ended the Hawks season at 19-8.
Liberty couldn’t muster any more magic in a nightcap at DeSales, succumbing to Neshaminy 4-0. The Skins threw a combined no-hitter thanks to Luke Schweiker and Steven Martin’s efforts to end the Hurricanes year at 20-5.
Neshaminy took a 1-0 lead in the third inning thanks to two Liberty errors to push ahead the opening run and the Skins added another run in the fourth thanks to an RBI by Mike Sassano. The Skins scored twice in the seventh to push their lead even further and Martin closed the door on Liberty’s season.
