NASD seeks grants for school buildings

Northampton Area School District is seeking $10 million in grants for improvements at two school buildings. NASD is also embarking on several major capital projects.

The NASD board of education voted 7-1 at its May 13 meeting to approve amendments for agreements for engineering services by D’Huy Engineering Inc., to request a Public School Facility Improvement Grant of $5 million from Commonwealth Financing Authority for the Moore Elementary School roof replacement and HVAC upgrades program and for engineering services by D’Huy Engineering Inc. and to request a Public School Facility Improvement Grant of $5 million from Commonwealth Financing Authority for the George Wolf Elementary School HVAC replacement project.

In other business at the May 13 meeting, school directors voted 8-0 to approve a Trane proposal to replace three boilers and pumps at Northampton Area High School as part of a turnkey project for $944,095; CoStars contract from Events Staging for the replacement of Al Erdosy Stadium public address system for $49,872; CoStars contract from Events Staging for the replacement of the NAHS gymnasium public address system for $30,165; three-year agreement, effective July 1-June 30, 2027, with Brightly Software Inc. for FS Direct for the district maintenance department for $4,217.96 per year and for InventoryDirect and Maintenance Essentials Pro for the district maintenance department for $12,305.59 per year, for a total of $16,523.55 per year; George Wolf Elementary stormwater easement between NASD and Bath Borough; bids for paper and janitorial supplies for 2024-25 for $105,673.40, awarded by Northampton-Monroe-Pike County Joint Purchasing Board; and 2024-25 cleaning, maintenance and general supply bids - general: $33,043.94, cleaning: $72,825.40, and maintenance: $83,217.79, for a total of $189,087.13.

Other approvals at the May 13 meeting included the addition of a color printer/copier to an existing lease with Fraser Advanced Information Systems for the NAHS library at $270.40 per month; a real estate tax assessment appeal filed in Court of Common Pleas of Northampton County by NASD against Lehigh Valley Industrial Park Lot 4 Owner LLC, now owned by BCDPF Radar Distribution Center LLC, for Tax Parcel No. M5 2 at 250 Radar Drive, Allen Township, pursuant to PILOT agreement and settlement stipulation and to approve and authorize NASD Attorney Raymond P. Wendolowski to execute PILOT agreement and settlement stipulation on behalf of NASD; a contract with Aramark Educational Services LLC, pending PDE approval, to provide food service management for 2024-25 school year; Taxpayer Relief Act (gaming funds) to accept 2024-25 property tax reduction of $2,222,915.15 to reduce property taxes and set homestead/farmstead exclusion at same fixed amount; a contract for Krise Transportation to provide transportation services for NASD, as of July 1-June 30, 2031; a five-year contract for BusPatrol, pending legal review, to provide transportation services July 1-June 30, 2029; an agreement for parent transportation between NASD and parent of a McKinney-Vento student; and the disposal of obsolete technology equipment.

The board of education next meets 6:30 p.m. June 10 in the auditorium at NAHS, 1619 Laubach Ave., Northampton.
