LVHN appoints 6 endowed chairs

Lehigh Valley Health Network has announced the appointments of six endowed chairs in a special ceremony and reception at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem. Two recent philanthropic gifts, celebrated that evening, brought LVHN to 24 endowed chairs.

During the ceremony, each new chairholder received a special white coat and maple chair engraved with LVHN’s seal, signaling their appointment.

Current endowed chairholders, senior leadership and LVHN’s most generous donors joined the ceremony and reception to celebrate six of LVHN’s best and brightest.

The six new endowed chairholders are:

David B. Burmeister, DO, MBA, The Auxiliary of Lehigh Valley Hospital Endowed Chair in Emergency Medicine; Annmarie Chavarria, DNP, MSN, The Peggy Fleming Endowed Chair in Nursing; Eric E. Local seniors receive Star scholarships

Star Community Health has awarded $1,000 scholarships to three high school seniors from the Bethlehem school district. The scholarships will assist recipients in funding their continuing education. Recipients were chosen from one-page essays they submitted on the question: Why does education matter to my health? Applicants also had to submit a letter of recommendation from a teacher or community leader.

The local recipients are:

• Briana Figueroa of Freedom HS in Bethlehem who will attend Northampton Community College.

• Julie Medaska of Liberty HS in Bethlehem who is undecided which college she will attend.

• Trevor Martucci also of Liberty HS who will attend Penn State University.

This is the first year Star Community Health is awarding seniors scholarships. The essay contest was open to any high school senior in the Allentown, Bethlehem and Easton Area school districts who plans to attend a two- or four-year college.

Students were presented their scholarships at their respective high schools.
