Pena earns D-11 medal

Several members of Salisbury’s track and field team competed in the District 11 Class 2A Championships last Tuesday and Wednesday at Blue Mountain High School.

Although no Falcons advanced to this weekend’s state championship meet, one medalist was crowned from Salisbury and a few other athletes finished in the top 10 in their events.

Pena, who earned a league medal in 2023, came into districts after not having her best day at this year’s league meet. She unleashed a throw of 100 feet, 8 inches at districts to take fourth place and earn her team’s only medal, which went to the top four finishers in each event.

A couple other Falcons finished one place away from earning a medal.

Emily Batten finished fifth in the 3,200-meter run and Jairo Suarez was took fifth place in the boys 110-meter hurdles.

Other top-10 district finishers from Salisbury were Jacob Cadet (6th in long jump), Paige Ziegenfus (7th in pole vault), Alexandra Miller (7th in pole vault), the boys 4x100 meter relay team (7th), William Kocher (7th in triple jump; 9th in long jump), Annalise Shelly (8th in long jump), Kendra Morgan (9th in 200; 10th in 100) and Emily Yakaitis (9th in 300 hurdles).
