Parkland boys lacrosse falls in league semifinal

The Parkland High School boys lacrosse team started behind the eight ball and was unable to fully comeback from an early deficit in falling to Easton 12-10 last Wednesday, May 8, in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference semifinal at Northampton High School’s Al Erdosy Stadium. The second-seeded Trojans (13-6 overall), who defeated the third-seeded Red Rovers 14-10 during the regular season back on Mach 19, never led and trailed by as many as five goals (7-2) in the second quarter. Parkland mounted a comeback, outscoring Easton in both the second and fourth quarters, but just ran out of time. It was a rematch of last year’s conference championship game, in which the Red Rovers (14-4) also won. Parkland did its best to stay in it, pulling to within just one goal twice. The Trojans chipped away at a 9-6 halftime deficit with a goal from John Gerancher eight minutes into the third quarter and a score by Parker Kusko two minutes later off a feed from Erik Matulevicius. But Easton got a quick response and found the back of the net just as the clock was expiring at the end of the third. Kusko led the attack with four goals and two assists while Gerancher recorded a hat trick. Mazz Afif had three assists for the Trojans, who will look to regroup ahead of the District 11 Class 3A Tournament. Drew Schaffer, Matt Kelley and Blake Finnegan rounded out the scoring with a goal each. Tyler Smith and Rob Gerdes both contributed an assist. Andrew Matulevicius finished with eight saves in goal. Easton went on to beat top-seeded Emmaus in Tuesday’s league title game.
