Mother Nature halted Northampton’s momentum in Sunday’s nightcap of the District 11 6A baseball semifinals and that could prove to be a good thing for Liberty.
The Hurricanes resumed play on Tuesday in the top of the fourth inning, past Press deadlines, to see if they can overcome a 2-0 deficit. Northampton opened Tuesday with two men on base and no outs, as the Hurricanes looked to climb out of a hole.
Sam Erschen and Austin Sommers each knocked in runs for the K-Kids in the third inning off starting pitcher JJ Cruz.
Cruz was replaced in the fourth inning by Liberty ace Noah Gyauch-Quirk, but the contest was halted due to lightning before Gyauch-Quirk could throw.
The slow start and weather delay puts the Hurricanes behind the eight ball, as they look to make a comeback in their quest for their third straight district title.
“The delay changes a lot,” said Pitsilos. “We will have to go with Noah the rest of this game, so if we are fortunate to come out with a win, we won’t have him for the finals.”
The finals are set for Wednesday evening at 5 p.m. back at DeSales where Tuesday’s winner will meet Parkland in the championship. The Trojans belted Nazareth 15-6 in the semifinals on Sunday and will have the advantage of two days rest.
Liberty will try to get its bats going against Northampton’s Brady Simock, who didn’t give up a hit through three innings.
