To the Editor:
“Whoa Cowboy” is what many of us with think when a car, pickup or big truck whizzes by our homes that are very close to the road.
New homes are set back for this very reason.
We can’t move the road, nor can we move the old homes.
Lynn Township supervisors have told us many times that most of the road miles in the township are state roads and out of township control.
We, as a community, can help mitigate this annoying and unsafe situation.
At this time, I’m focused on Madison and Decatur streets.
Without sidewalks, folks walk their children and pet dogs on the edge of the roads.
Some of the cars and trucks are not only fast and powerful they are noisy.
The rumble of the vehicles causes vibrations in our older homes.
When these homes were built, traffic was horse driven and the speeds were 3 mph or 4 mph.
I propose a quick plan that can help reduce the annoyance, help the safety concerns of our children, and maintain the peaceful nature of the village of New Tripoli.
I propose we citizen drivers voluntarily slow our cars to 25 mph when driving through the village on Madison and Decatur streets.
I have timed it at 25 mph compared to the posted limit of 40 mph.
The travel is less than 1 minute slower. It won’t make you late for work or school.
So what do you say?
