ALLENTOWN Motorboat racing on June 1

The roar and excitement of powerboat racing returns to Allentown’s Adams Island in the Lehigh River 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 1.

Racers from at least six states, all members of the Cocktail Class Wooden Boat Racing Association will travel here to compete in their “Skuas” in the first of the association’s seasonal races in the Mid-Atlantic and for the fifth time at Adams Island.

Skuas (Cocktail Class Racers) are home-built from a kit or from plans, made of high-quality marine plywood, and powered by six- or eight-horsepower outboard motors.

This event will be based on historic Adams Island, located on the east side of the Lehigh River between the Hamilton Street and the Tilghman Street bridges.

The public is invited to enjoy the event from Buck Boyle Park, located s the river from Adams Island where the race will be conducted.

Allentown Mayor Matt Tuerk is expected to attend the event.
