Mayor J. William Reynolds has announced his nomination of Mike Reich to be the next fire chief of the City of Bethlehem following Chief Warren Achey’s recent retirement.
Reich has been in the fire service for 36 years, starting as a volunteer firefighter in DuBois and 24 years in Bethlehem. While employed with the Bethlehem Fire Department, he has been a firefighter, hazardous material team technician, EMT, fire inspector, lieutenant, certified fire investigator, captain, plan examiner and chief fire inspector.
“I am a firefighter at heart, dedicated to serving the community. I want what is best for our city, the citizens, and the brave fire officers, paramedics and firefighters of our department. I understand the importance of working alongside our dedicated staff of professionals to ensure the safety and well-being of our community. I will lead with distinction, and strive to foster a strong culture of service, honor and professionalism in our department,” Reich said.
“During his 24 years as a firefighter for Bethlehem, Mike Reich has been a leader. Passion, honesty and integrity are but a few of the qualities he has exhibited during his career. Mike will be a great chief and make a strong leadership team with our Deputy Chief Craig Baer,” said Reynolds.
“When I recited my oath as a firefighter and in subsequent promotions, I promised to serve and protect the citizens of the City of Bethlehem with fidelity and have strived to do so. I look to develop the strengths of our officers and staff and to make a difference in the City of Bethlehem,” said Reich.
Chief Reich will oversee a department that includes 106 members of the Fire Department and 27 positions in the EMS Department. He was accepted by a vote of council May 21.
