Lehigh Valley Academy RCS illuminates stage with ‘The Lightning Thief’
Lehigh Valley Academy Regional Charter School thespians bolted across the stage in “The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical,” at Nazareth Area Middle School’s auditorium April 20 and 21. The production’s dress rehearsal was held April 19.
Twelve-year-old Percy Jackson, a boy with ADHD and dyslexia, discovers during a museum field trip that he is a modern Greek demigod. To prevent a war between the gods, Jackson goes on a quest to find Zeus’ missing lightning bolt. Expelled from school, the journey takes him from Camp Half-Blood to the Underworld.
Director Amanda Pascale was aided by music directors Kristen Suruskie and John Leiderman and Choreographer Sarah Kistler.
With music and lyrics by Rob Rokicki book by Joe Tracz, the musical is based on Rick Riordan’s novel “The Lightning Thief.”
“The Lightning Thief” ran off-Broadway in 2014 and 2019, went on tour in the United States twice, and opened on Broadway in 2019.
Musical numbers include, “Put You in Your Place,” “The Last Day of Summer,” “Strong,” “The Tree on the Hill” and “The Day I Got Expelled.”
“The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical” feature leads Rain Dempsey (Percy Jackson), Aliya Rae Johnson (Annabeth Chase), Oliver Clements (Grover) and Jalian Velez (Luke Castellan).
Supporting characters in the Lehigh Valley Academy production include Isabella Scheirer, Gavin Patterson, Mya Heard, Victoria Aponte Jusino, Angelie Zakariya, Angelika Hope Santana, Chase Mitman, Abrielle Miller, Mia Montessino, Lola Ramos, Margaret Epinger, Shania Ayala and Maya Albertson.
Among those in the ensemble are Victoria Aponte Jusino (Oracle), Lola Ramos, Abrielle “Bee” Miller, Margaret “Milli” Epinger, Angelika Hope Santana and Maya Albertson.
