LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Lax teams fall during districts

The lacrosse season came to an end last week for both the Freedom boys and girls teams.

The boys team fell to Parkland 18-16 in the District 11 3A quarterfinals last Thursday, ending Freedom’s reign atop the local scene.

Freedom (12-5) was looking to three-peat as District 11 champions this season, but it just wasn’t in the cards for the Pates.

EPC MVP and St. Joe’s commit Jared Karabinus might have saved his best game for last, as he scored a career-high seven goals against Parkland, but it wasn’t enough to hold off elimination from the district quarterfinals.

On the girls side, Freedom lost to Nazareth 11-10 in overtime last Thursday.

Morgan Koch scored the game-winner for the Blue Eagles with eight seconds left in the first overtime to secure their first district win since 2012.

Phoebe Cunningham and Karee Vandever scored four goals apiece for Freedom (11-6).

Tuesday’s boys semifinals featured top-seeded Emmaus taking on Parkland and Easton squaring off against Delaware Valley with the finals slated for 7 p.m. Thursday night at Lehigh.

Top-seeded Pleasant Valley took on Nazareth in the girls semifinals, while Emmaus and Easton squared off in the bottom of the bracket.

The girls 3A championship will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday night at Lehigh.
