Susan J. Smith, 73, late of Upper Milford Township, died quietly May 17, 2024, following a long illness. She was the daughter of the late Dorothy (Masonheimer) Smith and H. Morton Smith, of Shimersville.
She graduated from Emmaus High School and Virginia Intermont College.
She returned to the Lehigh Valley to pursue a career in the fine arts and antiques business and simultaneously engaged successfully in the breeding and racing of thoroughbred horses.
She took great pride in her community serving Upper Milford Township faithfully for many years on the planning commission and board of supervisors.
She was an active supporter of the Upper Milford Council of Republican Women, Upper Milford Western District Fire Company, the Lehigh County Historical Society, the Lower Macungie Township Historical Society, the Upper Milford Township Historical Society and the Friends of the 1803 House, Emmaus.
She was a Julia Low Society member of the Girl Scouts of America who enjoyed her teenage years as a Camp Mosey Wood counselor.
She is survived by brothers, retired Col. Hunter M. (Robin), Peter S. (Sallie); nieces, Alexa and Avery (Alfonso); nephew, Adam (Meghan); great-nieces and nephews, Brady, Gaspare, Alexandra.
Contributions may be made to the Friends of the 1803 House or the Girl Scouts of America.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements were made by the Schantz Funeral Home, P.C., Emmaus.
