Stephen J. Banko, 90, of Catasauqua, died May 15, 2024, at Country Meadows, Allentown. He was the husband of Margaret (Stipkovits) Banko for 65 years.

Born in Palmerton, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Klutzaritz) Banko.

He was a graduate of Palmerton High School.

He honorably served in the U.S. Navy for several years.

He was the owner of an auto shop in Catasauqua for 18 years. He worked at Mack Trucks, retiring after 25 years of service.

He drove race cars at Mahoning-Nazareth and Dorney Park and won many championships.

He was a longtime member of the former St. Lawrence Church, North Catasauqua, and was later a member of St. John Fisher Catholic Church, North Catasauqua.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Connie Moll with Tom of North Catasauqua and Cindy Stringer with Tim of Clementon, N.J.; a son, Stephen with Carole of Macungie; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Holly.
