Hokendauqua: St. John’s United Church of Christ plans June 1 used book sale

St. John’s United Church of Christ, Mickleys, 2918 MacArthur Road, will hold a used book sale 9 a.m.-noon June 1. The books are free!

Come in and look through hundreds of books, for all ages, for your summer reading. There will also be a few games and puzzles from which to choose.

At this event, the church will also be holding a bake sale.

Reminder: The annual fishing derby will be May 25 at Hokendauqua Park and Playground, 3417 Lehigh St. Registration will be 8-8:45 a.m., and the contest will run 9 a.m.-noon.

The contest is open to children ages 15 and younger. There will be awards, and more than 150 trout will be stocked.

This event, sponsored by the township recreation bureau, is free, but you must bring your own bait and tackle. Hokendauqua Park and Playground Association will provide refreshments.

Saturdays this summer are sure to be fun with Whitehall Township Recreation Bureau’s concert series. Come hear good tunes and enjoy delicious food and drinks 6-9 p.m. at Whitehall Parkway, 4689 S. Church St.

The dates are as follows, along with the food trucks set to be present. Hawk Mountain Brewery and Soaked Winery will also be on site.

• June 22: Large Flowerheads, with Hoff’s Kettle Corn, P.F.G. Pizza and Vince’s Cheesesteaks

• July 6: Tool Shed Jack, with Hoff’s Kettle Corn, P.F.G. Pizza, S&D SOULicious Cuisine and Up in Smoke BBQ

• July 13: GirlCrue, with Hoff’s Kettle Corn, Flying Deutschman and S&D SOULicious Cuisine

• July 27: Aardvarks, with Hoff’s Kettle Corn, Vince’s Cheesesteaks, S&D SOULicious Cuisine and Up in Smoke BBQ

• Aug. 10: SteelCreek, with S&D SOULicious Cuisine

Note: The band and food truck schedule is subject to change.

The township will be hosting an electronics recycling and document shredding day 9 a.m.-1 p.m. June 29 at the township complex, 3219 MacArthur Road. This event is for Whitehall Township residents only.

You must stay in your vehicle. There is a limit of 10 boxes for document shredding. You must have the exact funds or a check, made payable to Responsible Recycling Services, prepared if dropping off any items that include a fee.
