Williams drives in five runs against Cards

The Emmaus baseball team won three of its four games last week and heads into the final game of the regular season as one of the top four teams in the East Penn Conference.

A win over Whitehall in Tuesday’s regular season finale, which was played after Press deadline, would secure a first-round home game in the EPC playoffs for Emmaus.

The Hornets beat Central Catholic twice and Pocono Mountain East once last week, but fell to Parkland in a shutout.

Emmaus beat Central Catholic 6-4 last Monday. After four scoreless innings, the Hornets got on the board with a run in the fifth and four in the sixth. But the Vikings answered with four runs in the sixth before the winners added an insurance run in the top of the last inning.

Cohen Schadler had three hits in the win, while teammates Chad Kauffman, Emmit Budick, Josiah Williams and Daniel Rohlsen had two hits each.

Cole Moreau allowed five hits and no runs over five innings while striking out five Vikings and walking two. Wiley Fleck pitched two innings and allowed two hits and no earned runs. Emmaus committed three errors in the win.

Emmaus hosted the Vikings a day later and rolled to a 15-1 win in five innings, using an 11-run fourth inning to end the game early.

Schadler went 2 for 3 with four RBI in the win, while Kauffman had one hit and scored three times in the game. Noah Hogan had one hit and drove in two runs. Williams had one hit and two RBI.

Williams pitched four innings and allowed four hits and one earned run. Jaden Betz pitched one inning and allowed one hit while striking out one batter.

After their only day off last week, the Hornets were back in action Thursday when rival Parkland got revenge for the beating the Hornets applied to them at Coca-Cola Park a few weeks ago. The Trojans shut out Emmaus 12-0 last week at Church Lane to even their season series at 1-1.

Two Trojan pitchers limited Emmaus to one hit in the game, as Nate Bartholomew pitched 5 2/3 innings hitless innings while striking out eight batters.

Emmaus committed five errors in the loss as only four of Parkland’s runs were earned.

Emmaus capped the week with a 9-2 win over Pocono Mountain East.

Williams went 3 for 3 with five RBI and two runs scored against the Cardinals. He also pitched 3 2/3 innings and allowed just two hits and no runs while striking out five batters.

Emmaus (12-7 overall; 12-3 EPC) is one of four teams in the league with three losses or less heading into the final games of the season. The top four teams host first-round playoff games in the eight-team league tournament.
