Trojans hand Emmaus first volleyball loss of 2024 season

The Emmaus High School boys volleyball team had gone nearly all of the way through the 2024 regular season schedule without a blemish. But in last week’s regular season finale, the Hornets lost in four sets, 16-25, 21-25, 29-27, 27-25.

That snapped a 15-match win streak for Emmaus.

Before the match with the Trojans, the Hornets defeated Freedom in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference match in five sets on the road last Monday, April 29. Scores of the match were 15-25, 25-20, 25-20, 21-25 and 15-13.

Jametric Harris finished with a team-best 20 kills. Colin Holden tallied 13 kills, five blocks and three digs. Cael Kratzer recorded seven kills and nine digs. Cooper Henseler tallied 44 assists and 11 digs. Brayden Dang (20) and Kyle Long (16) combined for 36 digs.

In the match with the Trojans, Parkland came out firing on all cylinders in the opening set and won by almost double figures. The next three sets were back-and-forth until the final point.

Harris finished with 16 kills and six blocks. Lucas Mondin recorded 14 kills, one block and one assist. Ben Skekel had six kills. Henseler contributed 45 assists.

“This had all of the billings of a matchup of the top two teams in the conference,” said Emmaus head coach Jonathan Wilson. “Both teams played well and the atmosphere felt like a playoff match. Parkland came out and played a little bit better than us, but I think on any given night we can get the better of them.”

Emmaus finished the regular season with a 15-1 overall record and was 11-1 in the conference.

The Hornets earned the two seed in this week’s EPC Tournament and received a bye in the quarterfinal round.

They will take on the winner of Whitehall vs. Northampton in the semifinal round on Thursday at Allen at 5 p.m. Parkland is the one seed, Liberty is the four and Nazareth is the five.
