Trojan tennis tam competes in EPC Championships

The Parkland boys tennis team wrapped up the regular season last week and began the postseason at the East Penn Conference Championships.

The Trojans finished as the team runner-up at last Thursday’s league tournament at Freedom. While Parkland didn’t crown any champs at the event, several players finished in the top three spots to help the team to second place behind Liberty.

At No. 1 singles, Parkland’s Manav Patel won his first two matches before falling in the title match to Liberty’s Luke Appleman.

In the EPC No. 2 doubles bracket, the Trojan tandem of Ojas Krandikar and Yechan Cho also won two matches before falling to a Liberty opponent in the title match.

Parkland’s No. 3 doubles team of Ryan Wu and Matt Ringold followed the same path with wins in the quarterfinals and semifinals before meeting a Hurricane duo in finals and falling 10-9.

At No. 4 doubles, Parkland’s Jack Wu and Noah Elijovich lost in semifinals but bounced back to win the third-pace match.

In the 6-0 win over Pleasant Valley last Wednesday, April 17, Patel, Kevin Yao and Tom Gilchrist won singles matches, while the doubles teams of Ryan Wu/Ringold, Karandiker/Cho and Chu/Elijovich won doubles matches.

The Trojans pulled out a 4-2 win over Emmaus thanks to a sweep of the doubles matches.

Gilchrist won the No. 3 singles match, while the doubles team of Karandiker/Cho, Ryan Wu/Ringold and Chu/Elijovich were all victorious.

Parkland shut out Stroudsburg 7-0 on April 14.

Patel, Yao and Gilchrist earned singles wins, while Karandiker/Cho, Ryan Wu/Elijovich and Eric Zager/Jacky Zhang won singles matches over the Mountaineers.

The Trojans finish the season at 13-2 and will be the No. 2 seed for next week’s District 11 team tournament.
