PHS softball gets ninth straight win
The Parkland High School softball team has been on a tear the last three weeks, winning nine games in a row, including three last week, all in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference.
The Trojans defeated Northampton 10-6 last Thursday, took down Pleasant Valley 3-2 the next day and then beat Whitehall 15-4 on Friday.
In the win at Northampton, Parkland fell behind 1-0 after the first and then 2-1 after the third, but had a four-run top of the fourth to take a 5-2 lead. The Kids responded with a four-run fifth inning, but the Trojans took control of the game once again with a five-run top of the sixth.
The lineup finished with 11 hits, led by three from Allison Hunsberger. Amelia Dawson, Anna Belletieri and Addison Fritzinger all recorded two hits and two RBIs. Hunsberger earned the win, throwing a complete game and allowing just three earned runs.
In the victory against the Bears, the Trojans scored a run in the bottom of the second, but Pleasant Valley answered with two in the top of the third. Parkland bounced back with a two-run fourth and then held on with three straight scoreless innings.
Once again, the Trojans had double-digit hits, led by three from Hunsberger. Belletieri and Fritzinger both tallied two hits with the latter adding two RBIs. Fritzinger struck out four and gave up just two runs for the win.
Against the Zephyrs, Parkland scored 11 runs in the first three innings and never looked back. The lineup finished with 15 hits, led by four hits from Fritzinger, who also had four RBIs. Hunsberger, Dawson, Morgan Stuardi and Emma Kushner all ended with two hits.
Parkland moved to the top of the EPC West Division and improved upon its record to 13-3 overall and 11-2 in the conference, one game ahead of rival Emmaus. The Trojans hosted the Kids this past Tuesday and finish off the week with road games at Emmaus on Thursday and at Nazareth on Friday. Parkland then plays at Central Catholic in the regular season finale on Tuesday.
