PHS girls lacrosse beats SL, Liberty
The Parkland High School girls lacrosse team finished off the week last week strong, winning its final two games and snapping a six-game losing streak.
After falling to Southern Lehigh 18-4 in nonconference action last Tuesday night, the Trojans bounced back and stopped the streak by beating Liberty 18-8 in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference game on Thursday. Parkland then continued the winning ways with a 17-9 victory over Moravian Academy in nonleague action on Saturday.
Head coach Brittaney Costigan mentioned some of the highlights from the season thus far and has been pleased with the overall performance of the team.
“Midway through this season, our girls have been working as a unit to continue success on the field,” said Costigan. “Together, they have secured over 200 ground balls, building a collective effort to gain possession. Leading in these ground balls this season are Addison Winfield with 39 and Milla Hahn with 33. Gigi Leonzi, our senior starting attack, has achieved a huge milestone of hitting 200 career goals and Hailey Smith, starting senior goalie, recently hit 100 saves this season.
“This season our focus is building on those connections on the field while working off one another to make moves and keep possession for success.”
Against the Spartans, Anna Sensinger finished with a team-high two goals and both Milla Hahn and Gigi Leonzi found the back of the net once. Brynn Snyder contributed an assist. Hailey Smith finished with five saves in goal.
In the win over the Hurricanes, Leonzi led the attack with 10 goals. Lila Temchatin recorded a hat trick. Hahn contributed two goals and Kyla Smith, Addison Winfield and Sensinger rounded out the scoring with a goal each. Smith and Katie Generose split time in goal and both made five saves.
