Parkland tennis falls to EHS in D-11 semifinal

The Parkland High School tennis team’s season came to an end Tuesday with a 3-2 loss to Emmaus in the District 11 team tournament.

The Hornets swept the three singles matches, while Parkland won both doubles matches. Ojas Karandikar and Yechan Cho won their match 6-1, 6-3 and Ryan Wu and Matt Ringold beat their Hornet opponents 6-3, 6-1 Tuesday.

Parkland began the district team tournament Monday as the No. 2 seed with a 5-0 win over Pleasant Valley in the quarterfinal round.

Manav Patel, Kevin Yao and Tommy Gilchrist won singles matches for Parkland, while Karandikar/Cho and Wu/Ringold won doubles matches. All five matches were won in straight sets.

The Trojans finish the season 14-3 overall and 13-2 in East Penn Conference matches.

A few Parkland players competed in district singles and doubles action last week.

Patel was the No. 6 seed in the 16-player district singles field. he won his first match, 6-3, 6-3 over David Broczkowski of Liberty, but fell to No. 3 seed Nick Stone of Emmaus in the quarterfinal round.

Gilchrist and Yao also qualified for district singles. Both Trojans fell in the first round.

Patel and Gilchrist teamed up to win a pair of matches in the district doubles tournament. The Parkland pair won its first two matches before falling to the eventual tournament champs in the semifinal round.

Karandikar and Cho also played in the district doubles tournament, but lost in the first round.
