Parkland beats Blue Eagles
The Parkland High School boys volleyball team continued its win streak with two victories in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action last week. The Trojans currently have a seven-match win streak going overall, eight if not counting tournaments.
Parkland went on the road and defeated Nazareth in four sets by scores of 25-16, 25-17, 22-25, 25-10 last Thursday. The Trojans then beat Northampton on senior night this past Monday in straight sets by scores of 25-8, 25-18, 25-11.
In a highly-anticipated matchup of two of the top teams in the conference this season, Parkland flexed its muscle in defeating host Nazareth. Josh Nation led the offense with 15 kills while Kumayl Soonasra and Ahmad Jaffer anchored the defense with a combined 24 digs.
On the night when Parkland honored its seniors, the entire roster contributed to an impressive win over visiting Northampton. All 12 of Parkland’s seniors saw action and contributed in one way or another.
Luke Smith led the way with 11 kills, 2 blocks, and an ace, while Owen Rodgers added 8 kills, 2 blocks, and 2 digs. Alex Wilby added 7 kills and 3 digs. Will Stiles dished out 19 assists, had 8 digs and served a pair of 2 aces. Colby Brisendine added 15 assists and a block.
“The profound impact these 12 seniors have had on the Parkland volleyball program is beyond words,” said head coach Scott Trumbauer. “Frederic Patton, Colby Brisendine, Will Stiles, Kumayl Soonasra, Alex Wilby, Rahul Jasapara, Ahmad Jaffer, Luke Smith, Shlok Mehta, Owen Rodgers, Logan Nassry and Brady Hayward along with managers Maggie Smith and Madi Siggins have set an unprecedented standard for future Trojans volleyball players.
“Their boundless energy, passion for the sport and camaraderie have been evident throughout their four years in the program. With a remarkable match record of 55-8 and 174-42 in sets, to-date they have clinched two EPC Championships, a District 11 3A Championship, and one PIAA state championship. The memories and happiness shared with coaches, administrators, parents, family, and friends will endure a lifetime. Their presence will forever grace our sidelines.”
Parkland, which is now 13-2 overall and 10-1 in the conference, finishes up the regular season this week. The Trojans squared off against rival and unbeaten Emmaus on the road this past Wednesday and conclude the season with a nonconference match at Delaware Valley on Friday afternoon.
