Kusko nets five goals against PV

The Parkland High School boys lacrosse team had a successful week last week, winning all three of its games, two of which were in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference.

The Trojans have won their past four games and are one of just two unbeaten teams in the conference, joining rival Emmaus.

The Trojans defeated Liberty at home 22-1 on senior night last Thursday night, defeated Boyertown 11-7 in a nonconference game on Saturday and then took down Nazareth in an EPC game 17-6 this past Monday night.

In the win over the Hurricanes, Parkland raced out in front and scored early and often, taking a 7-1 lead after the first quarter and then was up 14-1 at halftime. Parker Kusko and John Gerancher both netted four goals and combined for three assists. Jake Parker and Danny Tapia each recorded hat tricks with Parker adding seven assists.

Jake Beidleman tallied two goals and Blake Finnegan, James Scott, Matt Kelley, Matt Scott, Rob Gerdes and Brennan Shaner all found the back of the net once. Tyler Smith contributed three assists and Mazz Afif added one.

In the victory against the Bears, the Trojans trailed 3-2 after the opening frame but then held them scoreless in the second and led 4-3 at halftime. The two teams traded goals in the third quarter and Parkland still led 6-5 heading to the fourth. The Trojans outscored Boyertown 5-2 in the fourth.

Kusko finished with a team-best five goals. Kelley recorded two goals and three assists. Gerancher, Smith, Finnegan and Parker rounded out the scoring with a goal each, with the latter adding four assists. Andrew Matulevicius made 14 saves in goal.

Just like in the game before, the Trojans took control against the Blue Eagles in the second half. After the teams were tied 3-3 after the first and Parkland was up 6-5 at halftime, the Trojans outscored Nazareth 4-0 in the third and 7-1 in the fourth.

Kusko notched seven goals. Gerancher had four goals and three assists. Parker recorded a hat trick and had three assists. Finnegan, Tapia and Kelley rounded out the scoring with a goal apiece. Scott contributed one assist. Matulevicius finished with eight saves.

Parkland, which improved its overall record to 12-4 overall and 8-0 in the conference, finishes out the regular season this week. The Trojans hosted Emmaus Wednesday night and then go to Moravian Academy in the season finale on Friday afternoon.

The EPC lacrosse playoffs begin with semifinals next Wednesday.
