The Emmaus High School girls lacrosse team has been playing its best lacrosse of the season over the last three weeks and it has come at the perfect time.
The Hornets ended the regular season portion of their schedule by winning their last six games, including in the season finale against Central Bucks West, 8-7. They then continued with that trend into the postseason, taking down Easton, a higher seed, in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Tournament semifinal round last Friday night at Northampton High School by a score of 10-6.
Emmaus went 12-6 overall and 6-2 in the conference.
Against the Buckshots back on May 6, Jordyn Poll and Rylie Poll both finished with two goals to lead the attack. Melea Weber recorded one goal and two assists. Sarah Gross tallied one goal and one assist and both Bri McClain and Olivia Schmidt had one goal. Abby DiComes contributed an assist. Alani Shotwell finished with nine saves in goal.
Emmaus came out firing out of the gates, scoring three of the four goals of the first quarter and led 3-1. The teams were even and combined for eight goals in the second as the Hornets went into halftime leading 7-5. It was a much lower-scoring second half and more of a defensive battle, but Emmaus held the Red Rovers to just one fourth-quarter goal to secure the victory.
Jordyn Poll tallied four goals and an assist. DiComes recorded two goals and an assist and McClain added two goals and two assists. Schmidt and Rylie Poll both added a goal and Weber had three assists. Shotwell made eight saves in net.
Emmaus squared off against defending conference champion and top seed Pleasant Valley in the tournament final this past Tuesday evening back at Northampton. See next week’s Press for more about that game.
