The Emmaus High School softball team was coming off two closely contested, important games in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference before its two games in-conference last week. After winning the first two, the Hornets took the next two to run their win streak to four games and position themselves nicely for the postseason.
Emmaus walked it off in a one-run victory over Northampton, winning 8-7 last Monday at Williams Street Field. The Hornets then had an easier time in beating Allen 21-4 on Wednesday on the road.
Entering the seventh inning against the Kids, Emmaus trailed by two runs.
Taylor Gitski tied the game at 7-7 with a two-run home run. Then, with two outs, Emma Kozy worked a walk with the bases loaded to bring home the winning run.
Autum Held threw a complete game, striking out seven and allowing just six hits. Molly Yard went 3 for 4 at the plate and scored two runs. Abby Derr was 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Sadie Haefeli and Held both finished with two hits.
The Hornets were able to defeat the Canaries in just four innings as they scored six runs in the top of the first, four in the second, three in the third and eight in the fourth. The lineup had 16 hits, led by three from Kozy and Derr, as the duo also combined for 11 RBIs. Kaelynn Burrell tallied two hits and five RBIs. Avery Shank and Mildred Thompson both had two hits.
This is the last full week of the regular season and it is a busy one for Emmaus, which improved its record to 13-3 overall and 9-3 in the conference.
The Hornets played Pocono Mountain East this past Monday and hosted Central Catholic on Tuesday. Emmaus welcomes Parkland Thursday and then concludes with Whitehall in the season finale on Monday.
