Emmaus heads into league playoff tourney

The Emmaus High School girls lacrosse team is running with some positive momentum heading into the postseason.

The Hornets were victorious in both of their Eastern Pennsylvania Conference games last week in the final full week of the regular season.

Last Monday, April 20, Emmaus had its largest margin of victory of the season in taking down Northampton 18-1. The Hornets followed that up with a 12-8 win on senior night in a rivalry game with Parkland last Wednesday.

In the win over the Kids, 11 different players found the back of the net, led by four goals from Jordyn Poll. Bri McClain, Sarah Gross, Kate Newhard and Jess Khan all finished with two goals. Abby DiComes, Brooke Peterson, Rylie Poll, Melea Weber, Sarah Palazzo and Taylor Younker each recorded a goal. Alani Shotwell and Devin O’Neil split time in goal with Shotwell finishing with two saves and O’Neil three.

In the victory against the Trojans, McClain finished with a team-best four goals and an assist. Rylie Poll had a hat trick with three goals. Jordyn Poll tallied two goals. Gross, Olivia Schmidt and Sofia Isaksson each found the back of the net once, with Gross and Isaksson adding an assist apiece. Weber contributed four assists. DiComes and Mattie China both had an assist. Shotwell made nine saves in goal.

Emmaus, which improved to 11-6 overall and 6-2 in the conference, concluded the regular season with a nonconference game at home against Central Bucks West this past Monday night. The Hornets earned the three seed in the EPC playoffs and will take on the second seed, Easton, this Thursday at Northampton High School at 5:30 p.m.
