EHS volleyball stays unbeaten in EPC play
The Emmaus High School boys volleyball team won both of its matches last week to remain the only undefeated team in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference.
First-year head coach Jonathan Wilson feels good about where his team stands at the moment.
“Our season has been going really well,” said Wilson. “Record aside, the team has been putting in a lot of hard work to improve their skills. Coaching takes on a whole different dynamic when we can show up and know there are 13 guys committed to excellence and committed to each other.
“The level of competitiveness has been consistently high throughout the season, which motivates and holds others accountable. They are excelling in the classroom and friendships are being strengthened on and off the court. I’ve been extremely thankful to be where I am, working with the athletes I have in my first year here at Emmaus.”
The Hornets defeated Bethlehem Catholic in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference match last Tuesday and then took down Southern Lehigh the next night. Both scores were 3-1.
“Winning feels great and being undefeated is nice,” Wilson said. “I’ve said from the beginning we can’t take any opponent lightly. We’ve seen week to week that every team has the ability to compete. Our focus has been giving our best effort every time we step onto the court, and I believe we’ve consistently done that at a pretty high level, which is difficult to do week in and week out.
“Huge props to all our guys for taking care of themselves physically and mentally to make that possible. The team is still very hungry and want to take this season as far as they possibly can.”
There have been some of standout performers that Wilson wanted to highlight in their leadership both on and off the court for the program.
“Jametric Harris has always been a standout player for Emmaus during his career,” said Wilson. “Over the last two weeks, something clicked and he’s been playing on another level. He’s an incredible impact player and if he continues his performance the way it is, we’ll have to find ways to keep him on the court in all 6 rotations.
“Colin Holden, holding down our other middle position, has been doing such a great job for us on the blocking front. He had an outstanding performance at the Bobcat and has been on an upward trajectory since. I really feel for any attackers that have to face Colin on the net. Cooper Henseler has been doing a great job facilitating our attackers and is a consistent vocal leader that encourages his teammates to be better. He’s also found himself in a good rhythm from the service line these last three or so matches.”
The regular season ends this week as Emmaus was at Freedom this past Monday and hosts Parkland on Wednesday. The winner of the rivalry match between the Green Hornets and Trojans will most likely receive the top seed in the conference tournament, which begins on Tuesday.
