EHS battles for playoff position

The Emmaus High School baseball team extended its win streak to three games with wins over Northampton and Allen last week.

The Hornets bet the Konkrete Kids 4-3 on Monday, April 22. They outlasted the Canaries 14-10 two days later.

Colin Wilson went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run against Northampton. Bryan Kain had one hit and two RBIs for Emmaus.

The Kids outhit the Hornets 8-5 in the game, but three Emmaus pitchers limited their scoring. Cole Moreau threw 4 1/3 innings and struck out five batters while walking three and allowing six hits and three runs. Shane Ohl (1 2/3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 K) and Wiley Fleck (1 IP, 0 H, 0 R) also pitched in the win.

Allen took a 5-1 lead in the first inning, but Emmaus chipped away at the deficit with a run in the third inning and two more in each of the fourth and fifth. The Canaries led 9-6 heading into the final frame when the Hornets plated eight runs to take a 14-9 lead and hold on for the win.

Noah Hogan had four hits in the game while scoring twice and knocking in two runs. Emmit Budick had three hits, two runs and an RBI. Cohen Schadler went 3 for 3 and scored three times.

Fleck got the win, allowing two hits and one run over three innings while striking out five batters and walking one.

Emmaus improved to 9-6 overall and 9-2 in East Penn Conference play with five games remaining on the schedule. The Hornets head into this week with the second-best record in the EPC and will have a shot at the current league leader, Pocono Mountain East (10-3; 10-1), when the Cardinals visit Church Lane Friday.

That will come one day after a rematch with Parkland (11-4; 8-3), who Emmaus beat a few weeks ago by the 10-run rule. Liberty (12-4; 10-2) and Nazareth (11-3; 8-2) are also vying for the top seed in the league playoffs, which are slated to begin next Thursday, May 9.
