Boys top Vikes to reach final
The Emmaus High School boys lacrosse team finished the regular season on a roll, winning its last 13 games, including the season finale against Wyoming Seminary. The Hornets then kept the winning going into the postseason by defeating Central Catholic in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference semifinal round last week.
Emmaus, which had not lost since March 30 against Wilson West Lawn in overtime, finished the regular season 17-1 overall and an unbeaten 9-0 in the conference. They earned the top seed in the EPC Tournament.
In the season finale, the Hornets beat Wyoming Seminary 17-5. Both Liam Rooney and Will Barber had game-highs of five goals with Barber adding five assists for a 10-point game. Jahkari Christian recorded two goals. Each of Gabe Chies, Michael Chies, Anthony Attar, Brady McKechnie, Collin Garrett and Jewlien Torres all found the back of the net once. Michael Chies also contributed four assists with Kaleb Mains adding one. Sam Rainford finished with nine saves and Jack Sullivan ended with two saves.
In the EPC semifinal, the Vikings actually took an early lead, taking a 3-2 edge after the opening quarter. The roles were reversed in the second quarter as Emmaus scored three goals to Central’s two and the score was tied at 5-5 at halftime. The Hornets then outscored CCHS 2-1 in both the third and fourth quarters to take the game.
Barber, who was named the conference’s MVP before the game, finished with two goals and two assists. Michael Chies and Rooney both recorded two goals. Mains, Reilly Bechtel and Marcus Puentes each had a goal. Torres contributed an assist. Rainford made 16 saves.
The EPC title game between Emmaus and the third seed, Easton, a 12-10 winner over second-seeded Parkland in the semis, was this past Tuesday night at Northampton High School. See next week’s Press for more about the final.
