Bartholomew pitches no-hitter against Kids

After suffering its first East Penn Conference loss of the season, the Parkland baseball team has embarked on a four-game win streak and that has taken the team back to the top of the league standings.

Since falling to Emmaus last Tuesday, April 15, Parkland (10-2 overall; 8-1 EPC) responded with wins over Northampton, Central Catholic, Hazleton and Allen.

The Trojans beat Northampton 4-0 last Wednesday. They scored three runs in the first inning and another in the second then rode the arm Nate Bartholomew, who threw a no-hitter while striking out four batters and walking six over seven innings.

Landen Benner had two hits for Parkland and scored twice in the game. Nathan Unger was 1 for 2 with two RBIs.

Parkland beat Central Catholic 2-0 last Thursday, the Trojans’ third game in three days.

Pitchers Michael Kohler (5 1/2 innings, 4 H, 0 ER, 3 K) and Unger (1 2/3 IP, 0 H, 0ER, 3 K) combined for the shut out.

Andrew Klotz went 3 for 3 with an RBI, while Cole Brunner was 2 for 3 and scored a run.

The Trojans pulled out a back-and-forth game against Hazleton Saturday, 7-6.

The Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first before Parkland tied the game in the bottom of the inning. The Cougars went in front 3-1 with a run in each of the next two innings, but the Trojans tied the game with two runs in the third and went ahead 5-3 with another pair of runs in the fourth inning.

Hazleton went back ahead 6-5 with a three-run sixth inning, but Parkland responded with two runs in the bottom of the sixth and held on for the win.

Will Dobil went 2 for 3 with two runs scored. Klotz had one hit in the game and drove in two runs.

Three Trojans pitchers battled through six errors from the Parkland defense. Julian Santiago got the win with a hitless 1 2/3 of an inning in relief.

Parkland made quick work of Allen Monday, 12-2 in five innings.

Klotz went 3 for 3 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Benner wand Unger were both 2 for 3 at the plate in the win.

While last week’s loss temporarily dropped the Trojans into a tie with Liberty (9-4; 8-2) for the top seed in the league playoffs, a Hurricane loss to Bethlehem Catholic Monday put Parkland back on top.

Parkland and Liberty are not scheduled to meet in the regular season. The Trojans have seven league games left on the schedule as of Monday, while the Hurricanes have six.
